About- Unique flavor has made this white seeded Blue Lake variety one of the most popular home-garden bush beans in the country. Slow fiber and seed development contribute to Blue Lakes fresh quality over a long harvest period. The vigorous plants have good resistance to several strains of bean mosaic viruses common to the Northeast.

When and Where to Plant- Select a sunny location and plant when all danger of frost is past and the soil has warmed. For best results, loosen soil with spade or fork, fertilize with vegetable food and smooth over with a rake. Firm soil over seed and keep soil moist. For a continuous supply of fresh beans, plant every 3 weeks.

Care and Harvest- Grows best in a soil with a pH between 6 and 7, and just a light application of fertilizer. Water at ground level to reduce the probability of disease. Pick beans every 2-3 days, when pods are 4-6 inches long and before seeds develop and the sides bulge. Hold the stem with one hand and pick with the other hand to avoid tearing the plant.

Blue Lake Bush Beans

I was pleased with the order of the beans. They are, in fact, bush beans which is what we tried to purchase three previous years (but ended up with pole beans). We have had a drought in here in Pfafftown, N.C. for a while. We planted 10 short rows in our garden near the house and 4 long rows in the garden on the hill. We were unable to water the beans on the hill and they just dried up. However, we watered the 10 short rows near the house. In the period of 13 days, I canned 54 1/2 quarts of blue lake "bush" beans. I was very pleased with them. We are still watering them and hope to get a few more to cook and hopefully some to can. I will order from you again in the future and was so happy to finally find what I wanted.. Thanks a bunch.

Best bean ever

We've grown Blue Lake for 30+ years because it's our absolutely favorite variety! My husband always plants a few extra rows for the neighbors to come over and pick. It maintains its flavor and texture when canned or blanched / frozen.
