About- Frosty peas are by far, our most popular home garden variety. Productive plants yield uniform, dark green blunt pods, tightly filled with delicious peas. Early Frosty peas are known for their high yields, vigor and excellent freezing quality.

When and Where to Plant- Select a sunny location and plant in early spring, as soon as the soil can be worked. Cultivate soil and enrich with vegetable food and organic matter. Continue planting at 2 week intervals until mid-spring. Plant again in late summer for a late fall crop. For better germination firm soil over seed.

Care and Harvest- Grows best in a soil with a pH between 6 and 7, and just a light application of fertilizer. Plants that grow over 2 feet tall are easier to maintain and pick if they are trellised. Water at ground level to reduce the probability of disease. Pick when seeds have enlarged in the pod and are still bright green. Hold vine while picking to avoid tearing the plant.

An old favorite

This is my favorite pea variety. Agway used to carry it, but since they went out of business I couldn't find it anymore. I was so happy to find it at Rohrer's! It is a sweet flavored pea that is delicious when eaten fresh, and it also maintains it's flavor and texture when freezing. I wish my mom grew this pea when I was a kid, because I had no idea how good fresh peas can taste until I tried this variety.
