Mark Your Calender - Rohrer Seeds' Spring Kickoff Days Are Coming!

What is it?

Rohrer Seeds' Spring Kickoff Days were originally started as a celebration of Rohrer Seeds' 100th year in business back in 2020. The purpose was to get people excited for the upcoming spring and planting season. This tradition has since taken on a life of its own and many of our customers have remarked that attending the Kickoff Day is the symbollic start of spring each year now.

Some unique things that you don't want to miss are:

Tours of our facilities including live demonstrations of our seed packing machine

Demonstrations on starting seeds and best practices

Get advice from gardening experts

Door prizes/raffles for chances to win items

Free packets of seeds, no purchase required

Food and drink for your convenience

When & Where:

The dates are set for February 22, 2025 and March 1, 2025. Both events will run from 8 AM to 5 PM.

The events will be held at our retail store at 2472 Old Philadelphia Pike, Lancaster, PA. We are on Rt. 340 in the Smoketown area.

Pamela Alexander: they have a ramp, and when its not packed full of people it is wheelchair friendly. the staff are really nice, so if the ramp or door are a bit much (the ramp is a trifle steep and the door is heavy) they will be happy to help. i have had to ask for assistance several times as i am using a cane or rollator.

Ken’s Garden, across the street is also mostly wheelchair accessible, although parts of the garden center have gravel instead of paving, and i wouldnt advise those areas- that is a minority of the space

Stunning variety of colorful annuals in the first season

Northeastern Wildflower Seed Mix

Overall very pleased with the germination rate, colors and variety of species. The visual effect is stunning. However, as the season has progressed I noticed a preponderance of rudbeckia now overshadowing the annuals, and a noticeable absence of any other perennials. Hoping the perennials will appear next spring. Please check out the photos, 1 from early season and the other from late July in Cumberland county, PA

French Breakfast Radish Seeds

Our Go-To Tomato

Good Turf Lawn Mix Seed

Most tender green beans

Emerite Pole Filet Bean

This will be my 4th year growing Emerite beans. They’re easy to grow and produce abundantly from early July to September on Cape Cod- I even harvested some in October ! They are tender and flavorful, by far the best green beans I’ve had. My friend, a longtime master gardener, loves them and now grows them as well. Provide room for them to climb - they will take off! I’ve had to pull a vine off my shingles, it was halfway to my second floor bedroom window !

Astia Container Zucchini

This zucchini plant germinated faster than anything else I have planted😊 I am sooo impressed thus far. I have absolutely no experience with growing anything until about a month ago so when this zucchini plant popped out of the rockwool at record speed, I was overjoyed. I am doing the wet paper towel in the baggie soaks to help with germinating so maybe that helped.

Black Coral Zucchini Squash (15 seeds) Container Collection

I planted this variety in my raised bed garden following a cover crop of mature triticale. It produced consistently throughout the summer and I even had two plants survive and continue setting fruit until mid September. I harvested the last mature zucchini in September and it is still sitting on my kitchen counter in early February without showing signs of rotting (it's now become my experiment to see how long it lasts). The others I harvested also had very good "shelf life". I had very little leaf mold issues with this variety during the growing season.

I purchased the seeds almost two years ago and still use them. I plant two seeds at a time to stagger the harvest, and both seeds germinate (knock on wood). The plants have been grown under the grow lights in my basement. Need to re-order.

Roma VF Tomato Seeds

They grew really well and we harvested more than anticipated. They didn't get real big as we figured that was because our area didn't receive much rain last summer. We did water them but not quite the same as rain water

Dr. Martin Pole Lima Bean Seeds

Grow these every year. Large sprawling plants, large delicious beans. Take a while to ripen and can be difficult to germinate, but so worth it. 5-6 plants are plenty for the two us for fresh beans and a winters worth of frozen beans. We don't dry them, don't seem to have a long enough growing season (in s Carolina ) for drying on the vine (probably because we're anxious to eat the earliest ones)! Following the growing instruction pdf on this page is highly recommended to increase germination. This is the only place I've ever found these for sale.

2024 Follow Up

Gum Drop Hybrid Black Cherry Tomato Seeds

Still in love with this variety. Grown in 6B with most of the Summer in the mid to low 90s and a lot of humidity. Some unavoidable cracking issues with the heat and rain, but very little loss. No disease or issues with pests. Still highly recommend this variety. Makes an amazing salsa, though seed heavy.
